The Farm & Farmer

Hello, my name is Buddy McLean. I own, and have operated, McLean Hill Farm & Gardens since 2009. Four generations of my family have called this farm home.

In my childhood, when my grandparents owned this farm, it was family-run and provided our community with vegetable from the gardens, fruit from and orchards, and firewood from the forests.

For a time, my parents used this property for a small herd of dairy cattle and fresh milk was available. On their neighboring farm, they now raise purebred Milking Shorthorns for beef.

Since 2009, after nearly two decades of dormancy, I have worked to bring the farm and gardens back to life. With the help of friends and family, we have been able to increase their size and productivity to give the farm a fighting chance for its future.

Having grown up on these farms and in this community, I am grateful for the opportunity to welcome folks here to experience a little bit of farm life while providing access to a viable, local food source with the CSA programs and events I manage.

As time marches on and there are fewer and fewer family farms in the world, I am humbled and inspired by the kindness, trust, and support of my neighbors, friends, and family to keep working and to continue to try and carry on my family’s tradition.
